New in tonica fugata 14

New “neutral” harmonization style

All previous harmonization styles are based on musical examples of a composer (J. S. Bach, Max Reger, Samuel Scheidt) or a genre (Jazz, Pop) and thus contain peculiarities of the respective compositional style. With tonica fugata 14, another “neutral” style of harmonization is introduced, which, based on the melody, produces simple harmonizations that cannot be assigned to a composer or genre. In this way, it is possible to create compositions that are less original, but easier to sing or play.

Edit and create accompanying styles

The function “Create accompanying patterns” creates style-typical, recurring rhythmic-harmonic accompaniment patterns for a melody or harmonization. With tonica fugata 14, all accompanying styles have been extended to up to eight voices. The accompanying styles editor lets you adapt predefined accompanying styles or create, import and export new accompanying styles. Every change can be tested at the push of a button.

Transposing instruments

tonica fugata 14 now supports transposing instruments, e. g. in the composition, analysis, import and export of scores. You set the transposition in the last column Transposition of the expanded SystemTemplate.

Consider modulations when analyzing and composing

The harmonic analysis in tonica fugata 14 now no longer analyzes the harmonies only relative to the root key, but automatically detects harmonic modulations and deviations into adjacent keys. You can also specify modulations which are then taken into account in the analysis. The distance for harmonic analysis is determined dynamically on request.

For certain sections of the melody, modulations can be specified, which are then taken into account in the composition. This way better and more interesting harmonizations can be created.

Modulations are now also taken into account in the notation of canons and fugues. This means that canons and fugues are more readable and therefore easier to play.

Create your own score templates

tonica fugata 14 you can save your own score templates and use them as a starting point for new scores.

New in tonica fugata 13

Available for Mac

The most important innovation in tonica fugata 13 is that the software runs on Mac.  Other important features are a new unser interface and a score display closely based upon the one in capella 8.

The start screen

Same as in capella 8, tonica welcomes the user with a start screen displaying information and news and enabling the user to open files, templates and examples.

Score display and note entry

Score display and note entry were adapted to capella 8 which yields:

  • Modern, ready for printing score display
  • Any number of staves, up to two voices per staff, configurable via the SystemTemplate
  • Note entry options as in capella (a few restrictions)
  • Inproved rhythmic playing in as in capella
  • Easy note exchange between tonica and capella via the clipboard

Enhancement of composition and analysis algorithsm

So far tonica was restricted to a maximum of four voices. With the enhanced score display, algorithms were also enhanced to allow more than four voices. This way you can now compose an eight-part harmony, a five-part fugue or an eight-part canon.

Soundfonts

You can now easily select the playback sound, independent of your sound card. Same as capella 8, tonica supports loading of sound libraries in sf2 format made available (some for free) on the Internet.

Contextual presentation in the composition assistant

Preferences for composition and analysis are displayed depending on the selected function and are directly editable.
Entry and analysis of harmonies is also directly possible.

SystemTemplate

As in capella, you can define the structure of the score via the SystemTemplate. Changes in the score layout are directly visible in the score.
