no playback, no sound under Windows 8.1

May also occur under Windows 10.

On some computers playback of MIDI files does not work any more. In this case capella cannot play back scores any more.

In capella you will typically find two entries in Extras | Options| Sound | Output: MIDI-Mapper and Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.

When the problem arises,  the entry "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" has vanished from the selection box.

We found this solution:

Right-mouseclick  on the Windows symbol bottom left on your screen and start the Device Manager.Gerätemanager

Open the display of Audio, Video and Game Controller.

Audio

Right-mouseclick on each Audio Device and selectUninstall in the menu.

Audioauswahl

Confirm with  OK

.Audioauswahl

When all Audio devices are unstalled, restart Windows. During this procedure Windows "realizes" that Audio devices have to be installed and automatically starts driver installation. After that the entry "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" is again available in the selection box.

In Extras | Options | Sound | Output select the driver Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth and leave the dialog with OK. Now your score will be played back.
